“I have to stay at home because of some widespread communicable disease. I must practice self-care through healthy and stress-reduction activities.”

The world is grappling with an insidious pandemic that has spread like wildfire. So far no country has escaped its wrath. Everyone including children and adults alike are imprisoned in their homes, unable to go to schools and offices. In these times, personal and dietary hygiene along with productive activities are an important concern for everyone.

Personal hygiene includes all the ways we can look after our bodies physically and mentally. Besides maintaining physical cleanliness, our mental state is also crucial and is directly related to it. There are countless benefits of good hygiene. By staying clean we can move to a higher stage in society by influencing others with our charisma. We can increase our life expectancy and look as fit as a fiddle regardless of age. Most importantly, it lowers the chances of spreading infection and getting sick frequently.

Similarly, diet and immunity are also directly linked. The cleaner the food we eat, the lesser our exposure to germs. Therefore in these dangerous times, it is imperative to eat healthy for our immunity. Red meat and seafood contain zinc which keeps our immune system operational. Moreover, vegetables and fruits such as oranges and broccoli are jazzed up with vitamins and manufacture white blood cells.

In this lockdown period, people are engaging in all sorts of activities to spend time productively and avoid painful boredom. Physical activities are one such example. We need to understand their worth. First, they keep our lungs and hearts healthy. Secondly, they invigorate our bodies and brains. We can resort to cycling, swimming, or brisk walking. We can also use meditation and body-stretches to calm ourselves. Additionally, we can challenge our creative potentials by polishing our creative writing or music skills. We can also enhance our stitching, painting and photography skills and learn to find solace in capturing the beauty of nature.

In a nutshell, if we practice these healthy activities, we can survive through this pandemic stronger. If we try to follow all health precautions, we can surely rise as a community, nation, and race.
