Will Hygeniya return?

(A Narrative Essay)

Maya was lonely and wanted a friend. Her wish came true when Hygeniya emerged as her friend. Her shiny-long hair, rosy cheeks, sparkling eyes and beautiful clean dress made her look out of this world. Everyday Hygeniya shared stories of her pure world, walks along pristine river, hikes on beautiful hills and diet of fresh fruits. Maya felt herself stinky and her room untidy, in Hygeniya’s presence. Maya realized, since many days she didn’t take shower or change. Ever since her mom got job Maya’s hygiene was ignored, though her mom hired a nanny to look after her.

Maya’s nanny served her fries which she grabbed with messy hands showing long-dirty nails. Before Hygeniya could ask her to wash hands, Maya had stuffed her mouth. Hygeniya was shocked and asked her to trim her nails. Instead, Maya painted her nails to conceal the garbage. In the evening, Maya’s mom planned to take Maya to her favorite burger’s spot. Despite Hygeniya’s insistence, Maya didn’t change. Even her mother didn’t insist because it’ll take time.

Next day, her mom had to reach office early and her father had an urgent meeting. Therefore, Maya was dropped to school by driver with flu and fever. She took chocolates in lunch and enjoyed these with her fellows. The day was full of fun. Upon reaching home, Maya hurried towards her room to share her day with Hygeniya. She appeared but started fading which Maya hardly observed because of severe headache. Nanny served pizza in lunch, Maya couldn’t wait to have a slice but was unable to eat.

Later, Maya got high fever, her parents rushed to a doctor. She had throat infection, and malnutrition had further weakened her. Maya had shut her eyes to call Hygeniya but she didn’t appear. She recalled her unhealthy eating habits and hygiene routine. Her parents also realized their ignorance towards Maya. They made unknowledgeable people in-charge of their child’s wellbeing. No exercise, junk meals, lack of fresh fruits and vegetables all made Maya sick. They never discussed hygiene conditions of school with teachers. Realization brought Maya’s health – and Hygeniya.
