Milk: What you Should Know

Is Milk only Good for Calcium?
Milk and milk products such as yogurt are naturally rich in nutrients. Aside from Protein, they contain important Minerals and Vitamins, including:
- Calcium
- Vitamin A
- Phosphorus
- Vitamin B-12
- Potassium
- Vitamin D (in fortified milk)
Strong Bones go a Long Way
If children have enough milk in their diet during growing years, they will have strong, healthy bones. This helps prevent fractures during childhood, and brittle bones that can be prone to osteoporosis in later life. That's not all; milk products contain other nutrients that help build strong bones such as Phosphorus, Protein and Magnesium.
Here are some tips to help you get more milk into your children's diet:
- Lead by example. Have milk and milk products yourself. Not only is it good for you, your children will want to follow your example.
- Be encouraging and remember that positive reinforcement works much better than negative!
- Serve yogurt and raita with meals.
- Drink milk or lassi with meals instead of soft drinks: if your children can't eat chillies, the milk content will help!
- If your children complain about the taste of milk, add milk modifiers like MILO or NESQUICK to make it more delicious and nutritious
- Whip up a fresh fruit smoothie
- Make milk based desserts for your kids
- Last but not the least, add some fun and see the magic:
- Get some fun, crazy straws to make drinking milk attractive
- Let them pick out their own special milk glass or mug at the store
