Nutrition is key to ensure a child’s healthy development. But as always, theory is one thing, practice is another. Encouraging kids to eat more veggies and fruits, ensuring their meals are as nutritious as possible and that their protein sources are diversified can be a tough challenge for parents and caregivers.

Nestlé for Healthier Kids in Pakistan

Pakistan is reported to have one of the highest levels of child malnutrition compared to other developing countries. A focus on quality of diet and nutrition awareness is extremely essential to prevent stunting, wasting and other forms of malnutrition.

Creating Nutrition Awareness through Comprehensive Curriculum

This was the impetus behind the launch of Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK) Program in Pakistan in 2010. Nestlé for Healthier Kids is a comprehensive program which aims to raise nutrition and health knowledge and promote physical activity among school-age children. The program empowers parents, teachers, and caregivers to foster healthier eating, drinking and lifestyle habits among children.

N4HK’s curriculum is developed in collaboration with Oxford University Press. Our school-dedicated module follows train the trainer model through which the school teachers are empowered with educational tools and behavior change solutions to promote health lifestyles in the school environment. The Program is anchored in strong nutritional and behavioral science and aims to encourage the adoption of healthier habits.

The program supports public health objectives and enables schools to improve nutrition knowledge and promote healthy habits among children by teaching the importance of balancing good nutrition and healthy hydration with an active lifestyle.

How we are helping to educate kids about healthy lifestyles

Nestlé for Healthier Kids incorporates many areas of our work. Collectively, we are motivated by seven core objectives, encouraging kids to:

Most recently, the program has expanded to Gilgit-Baltistan with the launch of a program in Skardu and Gilgit. N4HK also launched Sustainability Training for Kids in partnership with WWF-Pakistan to help teach the younger generation about a more sustainable approach to packaging and managing waste.
