Nestlé Pakistan has entered into a partnership with the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) for the promotion of agricultural entrepreneurship in Karachi.

The Entrepreneurship Development Programme is being launched in October for those keen on developing their skills in agricultural entrepreneurship and management. It will comprise a weekend certificate programme which will be spread over 4 months. A batch of 40 students will be trained each year for three years. The technical knowledge and skills that they acquire will enable them to make use of modern and innovative agricultural and business management practices comprising on-farm and off-farm value addition, innovation and growth.

Waqar Ahmad, Head of Corporate Affairs, Nestlé Pakistan, welcomed the partnership. "It is through the concept of Creating Shared Value (CSV) that Nestlé aims to make an important contribution to the country, especially since Pakistan is a predominantly agricultural economy. It is essential that a class of professionals be trained in the relevant agricultural disciplines. Through such trainings in agricultural entrepreneurship, we seek to encourage fresh business ideas, help improve productivity and create opportunities for a better livelihood."

Commenting on the project, Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Dean and Director, IBA, said, "The positive impact that Nestlé Pakistan continues to make on the communities it operates in is commendable. We are excited to participate in this effort through a level of excellence in teaching and intellectual leadership. Together, we seek to promote agricultural entrepreneurship and encourage female participation in the programme.  We are confident this will greatly support the development of agriculture in the region."

Students will be mentored at all stages of the programme by faculty members of the IBA as well as technical experts from the agriculture industry. The teaching programme will also introduce students to learning business startup and management skills, which will enable them to launch and grow their own businesses. Modules to be taught in the program would range from Entrepreneurship, Finance, HR and Supply chain to IT and Agriculture. – End
